Rules & Regulations
Everything a studio needs for an Intrigue weekend: tuition, registration, what happens in the classroom, observers, studio discounts and scholarship guidelines. Current for the 2026–2027 season.
Registration & Tuition
Full Weekend
10 classes over the weekend, for every division: Mini, Junior, Teen and Senior.
Late Registration
Registered within 30 days of the event.
Studio Owner / Teacher
10 classes. Registered teachers have access to all convention rooms and may observe audition classes.
Observer Band
Full event, multi-day. See the observer rules below.
- Studio Registration Required
- Intrigue does not accept independent students. All dancers must be registered with a studio.
- Payment Deadline
- Fees must be paid in full 30 days prior to the event or discount rates will not be applied and late tuition applies. See the tour dates listing for cut-off dates.
- Credit Cards & Checks
- Intrigue accepts Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover. Please write one check for competition entries and convention registration.
- Check Fees
- All returned checks are subject to a $25 fee.
- Refunds
- No refunds on convention fees. No exceptions.
- Confirmations
- If registered by the 30 day deadline, studio owners and teachers receive a confirmation by email detailing convention participants, competition numbers and payment information.
Registration is handled through DanceCompGenie.

All ages are as of January 1, 2027. Each division receives 10 classes.

In the Classroom
- Attendance
- Dancers must attend both days of classes to remain eligible for scholarships. Switching divisions requires prior approval and forfeits scholarship eligibility.
- Class Admission
- Dancers going for scholarships must have an audition number to participate in class. Dancers not going for scholarships are given a class band. Teachers and observers must wear a wristband provided by Intrigue.
- Wristbands
- ID wristbands must be worn at all times. You will be charged for a replacement wristband if it is damaged or removed.
- Dress Code
- Proper dance attire is required. Hair secured, no jewelry, and dance shoes appropriate to the class style. Bring multiple pairs of shoes: jazz, ballet and sneakers.
- Photography & Video
- Video cameras and photography are not allowed in the workshop rooms at any time. Intrigue reserves the right to use any images taken during the convention for promotional purposes.
- Teachers
- All registered teachers have access to all convention rooms and may observe audition classes.
Observers
An observer band is $100 for the full event, multi-day. Bands are sold through your studio's DanceComp Genie registration before the event and are not sold on-site. Space is limited in select cities, and bands can sell out.
Observer bands may only be purchased by family members of registered attendees, and may not be used by teachers, studio owners or dancers.
Observers are not allowed to participate, take notes, pictures or video at any time during class. Observers are not permitted in audition classes.
Children 9 and younger are not permitted in the classroom as observers. Children 10 to 12 may observe with a purchased band only when accompanied by a parent who also holds a purchased band.
Observers who are disruptive to class will be asked to leave the room, and no refund will be given.
Studio Discounts
Bring your studio and your teachers come with you. Discounts are based on full paid convention attendees.
5 to 11 students
1 studio owner or teacher attends at half price
12 to 24 students
1 studio owner or teacher attends free
25 to 39 students
2 studio owners or teachers attend free
40 to 49 students
2 studio owners or teachers attend free, plus 1 free hotel night (1 room Friday or 1 room Saturday)
50 or more students
2 studio owners or teachers attend free, plus 2 free hotel nights (2 rooms one night, or 1 room both Friday and Saturday)
When calculating the total number of free teachers and free hotel nights, do not include scholarship recipients or observers. Only count full paid convention attendees.
Intrigue reimburses at the Intrigue hotel rate only. Book the room yourself and submit the receipt for reimbursement; Intrigue does not book on your behalf.
Multi-city discount
Studios with a paid registration attending more than one regional convention in the same season receive a 25% convention fee discount in the second city and a 30% discount in the third city. The discount only applies to students attending each qualifying city, and does not apply when a scholarship is used as payment at a prior regional event.
Scholarship Guidelines
- All dancers must attend both days of classes to be awarded a scholarship. If a faculty member notices a dancer missing class, the dancer will be penalized and the scholarship may be withdrawn.
- All scholarships must be used before the expiration date printed on the scholarship voucher. Intrigue Nationals scholarships must be used at the current season's upcoming Nationals only.
- Scholarships are not transferable. No exceptions.
- Scholarship auditions are closed to observers and parents.
- Dancers ages 22 and older are not eligible for scholarships.
- Should a dancer transfer studios before redeeming an Intrigue scholarship, the scholarship is only honored with permission from the studio owner under which the dancer received the award.
- Regional and Nationals scholarships are redeemed by emailing a copy of the scholarship to Intrigue and naming the event it should be applied to. The highest received scholarship is used and lower scholarships are voided.
Safety
Please report all accidents and injuries to an Intrigue manager immediately.
Gymnastics will not be tolerated in class or in the halls of the venue.
Students under the age of 15 must be accompanied by a chaperone.
